Annette Bening Admits 1,000-Pound Hay-Eaters Are Actually Quite Scaringly Large

The Hollywood icon confesses that pretending to be a rancher is much easier when the horses aren't looking at you.

A caricature of the actress for the article Annette Bening Admits 1,000-Pound Hay-Eaters Are Actually Quite Scaringly Large showing her looking nervous next to a giant horse.
Annette Bening is out here living our collective truth: horses are basically giant, unpredictable bicycles made of muscle and judgment. While she’s supposed to be playing a gritty cowgirl in the new Dutton Ranch saga, Annette recently let it slip that she’s actually totally spooked by her four-legged co-stars. Honestly, same. Have you seen their teeth? Imagine being a four-time Oscar nominee and having to play it cool while a beast named 'Thunder' decides whether or not to toss you into a cactus for fun. She’s out there wearing the flannels and the boots, but inside she’s probably screaming 'Please don't step on my toes' at a volume only dogs can hear. It’s hard to maintain that stoic pioneer energy when you’re worried the horse knows you don't actually know how to hitch a wagon. She admits she's 'intimidated,' which is actress-speak for 'I am one neigh away from hiding in my trailer with a soy latte.' We hope the wranglers are giving her the chillest horse on set—maybe one that’s just three ponies in a trench coat or a very large, stationary ottoman covered in fake fur. Hang in there, Annette! The spurs are just for show, and the horses can smell fear, but they probably can't recognize an Academy Award.
