Local Telekinetic Genius Mara Wilson Refuses to Move More Cereal Bowls for Netflix Cash

The former child star isn't ready to let a gritty reboot ruin her impeccable record of being the coolest girl in school.

Listen, we all want to see a thirty-something Matilda Wormwood absolutely annihilating a Karen at a Whole Foods using only the power of her mind, but Mara Wilson is putting her foot down. She basically said a sequel might not live up to the original, which is refined actor-speak for 'I don't want to spend six months taped to a harness while a CGI Danny DeVito screams at me.' Mara knows that once you've successfully glued a hat to a man's head and conquered a giant woman who throws children for sport, there’s nowhere left to go but down. She’s worried a sequel would just be her staring at a laptop screen trying to psychically fix her Wi-Fi connection. Quite frankly, we respect the gatekeeping. Some things are too pure for the streaming wars treatment. While the internet is thirsty for a dark gritty reboot where Lavender is a detective and the Trunchbull is a misunderstood life coach, Mara is staying firm. She doesn't need to tilt any more pitchers of water to prove she's a legend. If you want magic, go re-watch the original and stop trying to make 'Matilda 2: The Taxes of Terror' happen. It’s not going to happen.
